Pineapple fiber specification
Pineapple fiber (Pineapple Leaf Fiber or PALF) has distinct chemical, physical, and mechanical specifications that make it valuable for textiles and bio-composites.
Chemical Composition
- Cellulose: 70% to 82% (gives high mechanical strength)
- Lignin: 5% to 12% (or up to 4–5% depending on processing/grade)
- Hemicellulose: Present as part of the natural matrix
- Ash: ~1.1%
Physical & Optical Properties
- Color: Pure white, light ivory, or dull brown (depending on washing, sun-drying/bleaching, and storage)
- Texture / Hand Feel: Very soft to slightly stiff, silky sheen, naturally coarse surface structure.
- Staple Length: Relatively long natural filament extracted from plant leaves.
- HS Classification: Falls under HS 530500 (vegetable textile fibers n.e.c.)
Mechanical Properties-
- Flexural / Tensile Strength: High specific strength; flexural strength ranges from 100 to 200 MPa (varies by processing and grade)
- Moisture Absorption: Good moisture-absorption and management properties
- UV Resistance: Good resistance to sunlight exposure.
- Biodegradability: Fully biodegradable and compostable.
- Resistances: Hypoallergenic, antibacterial, and resistant to mold and mildew.
One quintal: 1000 USD
